To call Morocco from abroad, dial the country code +212 (or 00 212), then the Moroccan number without its leading 0. That is the one rule to remember; the rest depends on who you are calling and how.
How to dial a Moroccan number
A Moroccan number has 10 digits starting with 0: 05 for a landline, 06 or 07 for a mobile. From abroad the 0 goes and the country code takes its place.
| You are calling… | Moroccan number as written | What you dial |
|---|---|---|
| a mobile, from the UK or Europe | 06 12 34 56 78 | +212 6 12 34 56 78 or 00 212 6 12 34 56 78 |
| a landline, from the UK or Europe | 05 24 12 34 56 | +212 5 24 12 34 56 |
| from the US or Canada | 06 12 34 56 78 | 011 212 6 12 34 56 78 |
| inside Morocco, with a Moroccan line | 06 12 34 56 78 | 06 12 34 56 78 |
On a smartphone, the simplest habit is to save Moroccan contacts in the +212 format: the number then works from home, from Morocco and from anywhere else without changes. It is also the format WhatsApp needs to recognise the contact.
What does a call to Morocco cost?
From the UK or Europe, a call to Morocco is an international call. Most mobile plans do not include it, and the per-minute price varies a lot between networks; some sell international add-ons that cover North Africa. Check the international section of your plan before a long call.
Once you are in Morocco, calling from your home line becomes a roaming call, often dearer still. To give one carrier's figure: on 14 October 2026, RED by SFR's rate checker showed €1.58 a minute for a call made from Morocco and €1.19 a minute for a call received. Calling Morocco for free
A call made through an app, over the internet, costs only the data it uses. In Morocco WhatsApp is everywhere, used by private people and by many riads, drivers and guides; FaceTime, Signal or Messenger work too if the other person uses them.
- From home, on Wi-Fi or your plan's data: a WhatsApp call to a Moroccan number is free.
- From Morocco, with a data eSIM: the WhatsApp call runs over the eSIM, with no roaming charge on your home line.
- A voice call uses little data; video uses more. Our plans give 1 GB a day at full speed, which comfortably covers daily calls.
What a data eSIM does not do
Our plans are data only: they have no phone number, do not make ordinary calls and do not receive texts. To reach a Moroccan number that has no WhatsApp (an office landline, for example), you need your usual line on roaming, or a Moroccan line. Your home SIM can stay active next to the eSIM to receive calls and your bank's codes.
For the other direction, see calling home from Morocco without breaking the bank, and for emergencies, emergency numbers in Morocco.
If you are travelling to Morocco, our plans run from 1 day (€6) to 30 days (€79): see the Morocco eSIM plans, and check that your phone is compatible first.
