Buying a SIM card as you walk off the plane is many travellers' first idea. But not every Moroccan airport has an operator shop. We checked, airport by airport, what the official store finders of Orange, inwi and Maroc Telecom list, without guessing the rest.
What the operators list
| Airport | Official shop listed |
|---|---|
| Marrakech-Menara | inwi: one point of sale at the airport. Orange: a CashPlus agent (payments, not an Orange shop) |
| Casablanca Mohammed V | Orange: “Boutique Aéroport Mohamed V” |
| Agadir Al Massira | none in the three operators' lists |
| Fes-Saiss | none in the three operators' lists |
| Tangier Ibn Battouta | none in the three operators' lists |
| Rabat-Sale | none in the three operators' lists |
| Essaouira-Mogador | none in the three operators' lists |
Only two airports have an operator point of sale in these lists: Casablanca Mohammed V (an Orange shop) and Marrakech-Menara (an inwi point). For Agadir, Fes, Tangier, Rabat and Essaouira, none of the three lists shows a point of sale at the airport. There may be resellers or counters these lists do not show; we cannot check that, so we do not claim it. Opening hours are not in these lists: if you land late at night, nothing guarantees a counter is open.
Buying a SIM on arrival: what you need
- Your passport: the card is registered in your name.
- Time: queue, registration, activation.
- An unlocked phone. If your phone has a single SIM slot, your home number cannot be reached while the Moroccan SIM is in.
- Dirhams or a card the counter accepts.
As a price example, inwi also sells eSIM packs for visitors on its site:
| inwi eSIM pack | What you get | Valid |
|---|---|---|
| 120 DH | unlimited internet, 10 min national calls | 7 days |
| 220 DH | unlimited internet, 10 min national calls | 14 days |
| 520 DH | unlimited internet, unlimited national and international (zone 1) calls, 2 h to France, 500 SMS | 30 days |
The visitor offers of all three operators are in Maroc Telecom, inwi and Orange eSIM prices for visitors, and the wait in how long to get a SIM card at a Moroccan airport. Landing in Marrakech? See also SIM card at Marrakech airport.
If your airport has no shop
In Agadir, Fes, Tangier, Rabat or Essaouira you will usually have to go into town, where all three operators have shops. Until then you have no mobile data, unless you roam on your home plan (Morocco is outside the EU and UK roaming deals: your carrier's rates apply) or use airport or hotel Wi-Fi.
The alternative: an eSIM installed before you fly
With an eSIM you install your plan at home on your own Wi-Fi and you are online as soon as you land, whatever the airport and the time. No queue, no passport at a counter, and your home SIM stays in the phone for calls and texts. Our eSIM runs on the Orange Maroc and inwi networks and starts on your first connection in Morocco.
