Two ways come up to get online in Morocco without paying roaming: the Pocket WiFi, a small 4G router you rent and carry in your pocket, and the eSIM, a digital SIM you install in your phone. Both work. They suit different trips.
What a Pocket WiFi is
A Pocket WiFi is a phone-sized box with its own Moroccan SIM card. It picks up the mobile network and shares it over Wi-Fi with your devices. Pocket WiFi Morocco, for example, rents its router at €4.90 a day with unlimited data and up to 10 devices connected at once, for a minimum of 2 days and with a €50 deposit refunded on return. It is delivered and collected free in Marrakech: at your hotel, your riad or Marrakech-Menara airport.
What an eSIM is
An eSIM is a profile you install with a QR code at home before you leave. It starts on your first connection in Morocco. Nothing to collect, nothing to return, nothing to charge. Our plans give 1 GB a day at full speed, then 512 Kbps, and hotspot is included.
Price, device by device
| For 7 days | eSIM (per phone) | Pocket WiFi (for the group) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 phone | €24 | €34.30 |
| 2 phones | €48 | €34.30 |
| 3 phones | €72 | €34.30 |
| Delivery | QR code by email | in Marrakech only |
| Deposit | none | €50, refunded on return |
The reading is simple: alone with one phone, the eSIM is cheaper; from two phones, the router is cheaper, and the gap grows with each device you add. Over fifteen days the router comes to €73.50 for the whole group, against €45 per phone with the eSIM.
The other differences
- Devices. The router connects tablets, laptops and phones without eSIM, including older or locked models. The eSIM needs a compatible, unlocked phone.
- Battery. The router needs charging every day and has to stay within Wi-Fi range: if someone in the group heads off alone, they lose internet. With an eSIM, everyone is connected wherever they are.
- Delivery. The router is handed over and collected in Marrakech. The eSIM arrives by email in seconds wherever you are, and works wherever there is signal in Morocco.
- Sharing. An eSIM can share its connection too, but it stays at 1 GB a day at full speed: fine to help out a laptop, not to run a whole family all day.
Which one to choose?
- You travel alone, or each person has a compatible phone and moves around separately: the eSIM.
- Two or more of you stay together, in and around Marrakech: the Pocket WiFi, delivered to your hotel or the airport.
- You have tablets, a laptop or a phone without eSIM: the Pocket WiFi.
- You are touring the country without starting in Marrakech: the eSIM, installed before the flight.
