You are upgrading your phone just before the trip, or yours breaks halfway through the holiday, and you want to know whether your Morocco eSIM can move from the old handset to the new one. The short answer is no: an eSIM QR code can be scanned only once, on a single device. Once installed, the eSIM is tied to that phone.
This is not a quirk of eSIM Maroc; it is how travel eSIM profiles work. What you should do depends on when you change phones.
Why the eSIM does not move between phones
The QR code in your email does not contain "the plan". It contains a server address and an activation code that allow one download of the eSIM profile. When your phone scans it, the profile downloads and the code is spent. Scanning the same code on another device returns an error such as "Cellular plan cannot be added".
Some carriers offer eSIM transfer between two iPhones or two Android phones. That feature is meant for your main line with your home carrier; it does not apply to a data-only travel eSIM like ours.
You are changing phones before you leave
This is the easy case: install the eSIM only on the phone you will travel with. If you have bought a plan but not scanned the QR code yet, wait until you have the new phone, check it is compatible, then install at home on Wi-Fi.
Installing early costs you nothing: the plan starts on your first connection to a Moroccan network, not at purchase or installation.
- Check the new phone supports eSIM and is unlocked: a carrier-locked phone may refuse an eSIM from another network.
- Keep the email with the QR code: it also contains the manual installation details (SM-DP+ address and activation code).
- If you lose the email, the resend page sends it again to the address used at purchase.
You are changing phones during the trip
If your phone is lost, stolen or broken in Morocco, the eSIM installed on it cannot be recovered onto another device. To get online on the replacement phone you need a new plan, which comes as a new eSIM with its own QR code.
Buy for the days you have left, not for the original trip length: with four days left, the 5-day plan at €19 is enough; with two days left, the 3-day plan at €14. You can buy from any Wi-Fi (hotel, café) and the QR code arrives by email within seconds.
What if you delete or reset the eSIM by mistake?
Deleting an eSIM profile destroys it: it cannot be reinstalled from the same QR code. Before a phone reset or a tidy-up of your cellular plans, turn the eSIM line off instead of removing it. If in doubt, email us before touching the profile.
